The traverse of Pointe Lachenal makes for an ideal short day out in amazing surroundings. The easier first summit is also a great spot to practice skills and train on snow or ice.

The first summit is a short, steep slope on snow or ice. It’s an ideal venue for practicing moving together skills on snow, or climbing ice in a less serious environment and leads to an excellent viewpoint. Continuing with the traverse, the second central summit is an easy rock scramble to the top, but then things get harder and a short abseil/lower is needed to drop down onto a steep traverse line that leads across to a snow saddle and the final tower. This can be climbed direct or turned on the right – either way leads to great views of the nearby east face of Mont Blanc du Tacul and a quick descent on snow back down to the glacier.
